On the morning of September 28th at the CSCO Annual Academic Meeting, CSCO welcomed the establishment of the 18th expert committee – “Anti-tumor Drug Safety Management Expert Committee (ASMC)”. It is reported that academician Wu Mengchao, academician Sun Yan, Professor Liao Meilin, Professor Guan Zhongzhen and Director Yan Min, Deputy Director of the Department of Drug Safety Regulation of the State Food and Drug Administration (CFDA) will be the academic advisors, and Professor Qin Shukui and Professor Li Jin will be the chairman members. In today’s inauguration ceremony of the Expert Committee on Antineoplastic Drug Safety Management (ASMC), experts of the committee will give extensive and in-depth exposition on the safety of antineoplastic drugs and give a detailed explanation on the urgency of establishing ASMC. As early as 150 A.D., the Roman royal physician found that the shape of cancerous lymphangitis of breast was like a crab, and named this kind of disease with “crab” (crab), which evolved into the present-day English term “cancer”. According to the data in the 2012 China Tumor Registry Annual Report, there are 286 people with cancer in every 100,000 people in China, with a 22% chance of developing cancer in their lifetime; 181 people die of cancer in every 100,000 people, with a 13% chance of dying of cancer in their lifetime. With such a daunting cancer, people have been developing various means to fight against it: medication, surgery, radiotherapy, biotherapy …… which is the most widely used one. On the occasion of the establishment of the Expert Committee on Safety Management of Anti-tumor Drugs, Prof. Qin Shukui, the chairman of the committee, said that anti-tumor drugs are a double-edged sword, and while they delay the lives of many tumor patients, they also bring them a lot of pain, such as drug extravasation, bone marrow suppression, liver, kidney, lung and nerve toxicity, secondary cancer, infertility, etc. The issue of drug safety has become an invisible killer of human health and has been classified as a global public crisis. It is classified as a global public crisis. For tumor patients, their bodies have already been destroyed by the disease, and they are even more vulnerable in front of chemotherapy! The toxicity of antineoplastic drugs is like the sword of Damocles, hanging high over the heads of millions of tumor patients. “In the face of the increasingly serious safety problems of antineoplastic drugs, countries all over the world have taken actions: World Health Organization (WHO), U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), European Medicines Agency (EMA), CFDA have established countermeasure organizations and established sound corresponding laws and regulations. CSCO, as the most active and influential academic organization in the field of oncology at home and abroad, has made unremitting efforts to address the safety issues of antineoplastic drugs for several generations. The Expert Committee on Safety Management of Anti-tumor Drugs established in this annual meeting will carry out a series of work on liver toxicity, heart toxicity, kidney toxicity, skin toxicity, bone marrow toxicity, etc. caused by tumor drugs; and is committed to improving medical workers’ attention to drug safety, regulating the safe use of anti-tumor drugs, aligning with international standards, strengthening exchanges, improving the level of anti-tumor treatment in China, and benefiting hundreds of millions of tumor patients. We are committed to improving the safety of antitumor drugs, and to strengthening communication with the international community.
