Lymph node dissection is mainly used for the treatment of local lymph node metastasis in malignant tumors. Local lymph nodes are removed at the same time as the tumor is removed, and the dissected lymph nodes will not grow again, but new lymph node metastasis may occur in other parts. In the early stage, only local lymph node metastasis can be removed during the surgery, so the local lymph nodes will not grow back. However, malignant tumors are easy to recur, and there is a possibility of lymph node metastasis in other areas or tumor recurrence after surgery, and then there will be enlarged lymph nodes in the metastatic area. Therefore, after lymph node dissection surgery for malignant tumors, further chemotherapy or radiation therapy is needed to kill the residual cancer cells in the body and reduce the chance of recurrence after surgery.
