Contraindications to scopolamine injection

Scopolamine is contraindicated for those with increased intracranial pressure, acute stage of cerebral hemorrhage, glaucoma, pyloric obstruction, intestinal obstruction and prostatic hypertrophy; reflux esophagitis, severe ulcerative colitis should be used with caution. Scopolamine is an M cholinergic receptor blocking drug, can relieve smooth muscle spasm, commonly used in the treatment of visceral smooth muscle spasm, colic symptoms, including renal colic, gastric colic and intestinal colic and so on. Scopolamine should not be used in patients who are allergic to this drug and in patients with increased intracranial pressure, especially in the acute stage of cerebral hemorrhage, glaucoma, etc., which may aggravate the condition. The drug is also contraindicated in patients with enlarged prostate due to the possibility of aggravating the symptoms of difficulty in urination in patients with enlarged prostate. Adverse reactions such as dry mouth, flushing of the face, increased heart rate, dilated pupils, blurred vision, difficulty urinating, drowsiness, and confusion may also occur when scopolamine is given. Scopolamine is a prescription medication and must be applied under a doctor’s supervision.
