Formulated Dosage of White Peony and Licorice Soup

White Peony and Licorice Tang is formulated with one tael of white peony stir-fried in vinegar and three cents of licorice. White Peony and Glycyrrhiza Glabra Soup is a traditional Chinese medicine formula from Volume 3 of Eight Methods of Healing, which mainly consists of two Chinese herbs, White Peony and Glycyrrhiza Glabra. White peony is stir-fried with vinegar, which can nourish yin and astringe the liver, nourish blood and regulate menstruation, and calm liver yang. Glycyrrhiza glabra is sweet in flavor and can nourish the spleen and benefit the qi, relieve acute pain, expel phlegm and relieve cough, remove toxins and clear heat, and harmonize various medicines (harmonize the medicinal properties of different Chinese medicines). The combination of the two herbs allows the formula to exert antispasmodic and analgesic effects. White Peony and Licorice Tang is indicated for stomach qi pain, which often occurs above the umbilicus and between the chest and diaphragm, and often tends to recur. Side effects of this formula are unclear, and herbs such as Cangzhu and ginger may be added if accompanied by a slow, astringent pulse.
