Is there a cure for SLE?

There is no complete cure for SLE (systemic lupus erythematosus), but there is hope to control the activity of the disease by following the doctor’s instructions for medication and reasonable treatment.
SLE is an immune system disease in which autoantibodies can damage multiple organs. The current level of medical treatment is not able to cure SLE. It cannot be cured, but can only control the disease activity and slow down the progress of the disease.
Currently, the main treatments for SLE include glucocorticosteroids such as methylprednisolone, immunosuppressants such as cyclophosphamide, and biologics such as belimumab and tetracycline, which have greatly improved the therapeutic efficacy of SLE, and some patients can be maintained in a long term and remain essentially inactive.
However, no cure can be achieved with any of the current treatments. The most important thing for SLE patients is to do active treatment, regular follow-up, do not stop the medication without authorization or adjust the dose of medication on their own, only active cooperation with early treatment can achieve good therapeutic effect.
Therefore, it is recommended that SLE patients should consult the rheumatology and immunology department in time and follow the doctor’s instructions.
