There is no such thing as an optimal combination of atractylodes with different diseases. This medicine is often combined with Atractylodes macrocephala, Semen haematoxylinis, Scutellaria baicalensis and other Chinese medicines. Atractylodes macrocephala is warm, bitter and sweet in nature, good at strengthening the spleen and benefiting qi, drying dampness and inducing diuresis (drying dampness and reducing water-dampness in the body), stopping sweating and stabilizing the fetus, suitable for spleen deficiency with little food, phlegm-drinking vertigo and palpitations (caused by phlegm-drinking and evil qi upturning to the palpitation of the vertigo and palpitation of the heart), self-sweating (involuntary daytime sweating that is aggravated when sweating is slightly moved), oedema, restlessness of the fetus, distention and diarrhea and other diseases. Atractylodes macrocephala is strong in drying dampness. Atractylodes macrocephala and Atractylodes macrocephala together can enhance the effect of drying dampness, which is effective in treating cold-dampness paralysis and bandhas. Yin deficiency, internal heat, qi deficiency sweating people should not be served. Atractylodes macrocephala is good at drying dampness and resolving phlegm (removing phlegm from the body with dampness-drying medicines) and relieving cough. Atractylodes macrocephala and Atractylodes macrocephala can enhance the efficacy of strengthening the spleen, drying dampness and resolving phlegm, and is effective in treating chest congestion and vomiting caused by a deficiency of the spleen and phlegm, as well as vertigo and headache. It should not be used with aconite herbs. It is contraindicated in all blood diseases (non-physiological bleeding disorders) and those with dry cough due to yin deficiency and thirst due to injury of fluids. In addition, Scutellaria baicalensis is good at tranquilizing the fetus and clearing heat. Atractylodes macrocephala and Scutellaria baicalensis, when combined, can benefit the qi and clear heat, as well as harmonize the yin and tranquilize the fetus, making it suitable for fetus restlessness in which there is dampness-heat in the li and a deficiency of qi in the body. The adverse effects of the above drugs are not known. Long-term use of large quantities of Atractylodes macrocephala may injure the fluid and deplete it, and should not be used in large quantities in patients with yin deficiency, constipation, or solid internal heat. It should be used in strict accordance with medical advice and should not be used on its own to avoid delaying the condition.
