Most compression fractures of the lumbar spine take more than 3 months to heal. However, the specific time should be determined by the site of compression and the degree of compression. Generally, if the fracture is mild and the compression does not exceed 1/3 of the vertebral body, surgical treatment is not required, and absolute bed rest is required to reduce local edema, which can gradually heal. If the compression is more severe and exceeds 1/3 of the vertebral body, surgical treatment is required. Some minimally invasive procedures, such as local bone cement injections, can be given, and recovery is relatively faster. In severe lumbar compression fractures, some require internal fixation of the plate, and the healing time is relatively longer.
