Are nail infections contagious?

Onychomycosis is generally not contagious. Inflammation of the nail is caused by pathogenic bacteria infection, mostly occurring in people with nail injuries. The cause of onychomycosis is often due to small trauma to the nail bed caused by nail trimming, tearing barbs, etc., and the skin around the nail is damaged, leading to the invasion of pathogenic bacteria and causing infection. Pathogenic bacteria often include Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas, Streptococcus pyogenes, Aspergillus, Candida albicans and so on. Inflammatory nail is not contagious. Inflammation of the nail is most common in people who have long-term contact with undesirable stimuli on the hands and feet (such as hairdressers, nurses, swimmers, chefs, cleaners), people who have injuries to the fingernail area, and people with low immunity, such as diabetics. It is recommended to go to the hospital in time and actively cooperate with the doctor to avoid aggravating the condition.
