Difference between semi-femtosecond and femtosecond

Semi-femtosecond and femtosecond are different modalities of myopic laser refractive surgery, with certain differences in terms of the incision in the cornea, the surgical procedure and the price of the surgery. Semi-femtosecond surgery requires making a corneal flap with a larger incision on the cornea, which causes more damage to the cornea. In contrast, full-femtosecond laser surgery does not need to make a corneal flap on the cornea, and it only requires a small incision of 2-4mm to take out the lens made by the laser in the stroma layer. As the half-femtosecond incision is larger, it causes more damage to the cornea, and thus there is a higher possibility of postoperative complications such as corneal dryness and foreign body sensation, while the full-femtosecond laser surgery has less intraoperative damage and a shorter postoperative recovery time. There is also a big difference in the cost of the two surgeries, with full femtosecond corneal laser surgery being more expensive than half femtosecond laser surgery. It is recommended that myopic patients consult a doctor in a timely manner to assess their condition and choose the appropriate surgical procedure under the doctor’s guidance.
