Things to keep in mind to control deafness

  1. Why do we need to talk about this topic today, bad habits cause deafness? Our ears have two major functions: they are involved in coordinating the balance of the body and they are able to hear a wide range of sounds. As an auditory organ, the ear is able to perceive sounds from 20-20,000Hz, and through the brain’s processing, it can also help us recall and associate. That’s what they say: “You hear the sound before you see the person”. This is a very powerful function. But at the same time, some of the structures of the ear are exposed, so we can see it without the help of special instruments, and it is vulnerable to direct injury from external factors, so it is a delicate and fragile organ that needs our care. Some bad habits in our daily life can lead to temporary or even permanent hearing loss, that is, to deafness. 2. What are the bad habits that may lead to deafness? These bad habits include: digging the ears with cotton swabs or digging spoons, blowing the nose hard when you have a cold, wearing earbud headphones for a long time to listen to the sound at a loud volume, being in an environment with high background noise for a long time (such as mining, workshop processing, construction decoration, etc.) without hearing protection, etc. There is also a trend of increasing the incidence of deafness caused by bad habits in recent years, which is sedentary, staying up late at night, etc. There is also a trend of increasing incidence of deafness caused by bad habits in recent years, such as sedentary lifestyle, staying up late at night and mental stress. The most common of these bad habits is ear picking. 3, ear digging is a thing that many people like, and some hairdressing places also give free ear digging service. It can also be said to be a long time tradition in our country. People think that digging your ears is relaxing and relaxing, and it can also play a role in cleaning, so it should be good for your ears, why would we say it is a bad habit? It’s true that digging your ears can be relaxing, but it doesn’t have a cleansing effect. The earwax in the external ear canal, or earwax as we call it, contains substances that resist microbial infections and protect the external ear canal and eardrum in a normal state. This kind of cerumen can be removed on its own with the change of head position or movement, as well as the movement of the jaw joint during daily speech and eating. If you do not pay attention to ear digging, you may send cerumen to the deep side of the ear, making it more difficult to remove, and you may dig through the skin of the external ear canal or the eardrum causing pain. All these situations can further cause deafness. The proverb “If you don’t pick your teeth, you won’t go deaf, and if you don’t dig your ears, you won’t go deaf” is also about this. 4. What should I do if I think there is a foreign body in my ear? Foreign bodies in the external ear canal must be removed. If it is a smooth spherical foreign body, you can use a thin foreign body hook with a hook at the end of the head and carefully send it to the deep side of the foreign body and gently remove it. In the case of insects crawling or fluttering in the external ear canal, you can first use non-irritating oil or alcohol drops into the external ear canal to make them stick or kill them before removing them. In most cases, it is not possible to remove foreign bodies from the ear by yourself, so you should get help from a doctor. 5. If I dip a cotton swab in my ear after each bath, will it reduce the appearance of earwax? No, it will not reduce the appearance of earwax, but only serve to wipe the outer ear canal. At the same time, it often happens that while dabbing the water in the ear, the cerumen in the ear canal is pushed further into the deeper part of the ear and builds up, forming cerumen embolism over time, which affects hearing. 6. Nowadays, mp3 players are getting cheaper and cheaper, and many teenagers in rural areas like to listen to music with headphones, but I heard that this is also bad for the ears, right? Yes, this is one of the bad habits that may cause deafness, that is, “wearing earbud headphones for a long time to listen to the sound at high volume”. Nowadays, mp3 players are equipped with small in-ear headphones, which can close the outer ear canal and block the incoming sound from non-headphone sources, increasing the vibration energy to the ear, which invariably increases the work intensity of the ear in processing sound. Studies have found that if this situation lasts for more than half an hour, it can cause damage to the hearing that cannot be fully recovered. So, in order to protect your hearing, we recommend that you try to turn down the volume when wearing earbud headphones to listen to mp3 music, while reducing the time spent listening to music; or that you wear over-the-ear headphones. 7, that is not often put the radio loud speaker on the ear to listen to, is the same reason, is not good for the ears? Yes, but this situation is a little different from the above mentioned listening to mp3 players. Because when listening to mp3 players put on headphones in advance, due to some shortcomings of the headphones caused potential hearing loss. But when listening to the radio we generally do not wear headphones, directly outside the sound. In this case, there is no outer ear canal closed by headphones causing increased work intensity of the ear, we will choose a suitable volume to listen to the radio. If we find that in a quiet environment but also often put the radio loud speaker on the ear to listen, we are reminded if his hearing has been a loss situation. 8.Many elderly people say, I can’t hear well without putting the loudspeaker to my ear, so how should this contradiction be resolved? In this case, it is usually accompanied by difficulty in communicating in daily conversation, and we will be asked to speak louder or turn on the volume of the TV, so it is time to visit the hospital and have a hearing check, etc. If it is cerumen embolism, take cerumen; if it is middle ear infection, anti-inflammatory or surgical treatment; if it is old and young deafness, it is recommended to wear hearing aids; different situations correspond to different treatment plans. 9. Like Xiao Xue, whom we talked about at the beginning of the program, many people actually have to work in a noisy environment, are these noises really that powerful? Can it cause deafness? These noises are really powerful. Although you don’t notice any hearing problems in your daily life, if you do a test called “pure silver audiometry”, you will find that there is undetected hearing damage in the high frequency range of sound, leading to deafness in the high frequency range.
