Sitz bath method after anal fistula surgery

After anal fistula surgery, doctors often instruct patients to take a sitz bath after defecation. Sitz baths include herbal sitz baths, warm salt water sitz baths, and using warm water to wash the anus directly. All of these sitz baths work differently, but are similar. Patients can set the medicinal solution or water temperature at about 37-38℃ by themselves and sit in the water basin, so that the rinse can make the wound clean and also make the wound stimulated by the medicinal solution to stimulate muscle growth and have a maintenance effect on the wound. However, it is required that the sitz bath time should not be too long, generally not more than 15 minutes, because too long sitz bath will make the wound granulation tissue stimulated or overgrowth, making the wound healing slow. Patients need to be reminded that in the sitz bath to the main liquid soak, avoid scrubbing, avoid wiping the wound with gauze, otherwise it will affect the growth of the wound, and excessive fumigation will cause the wound to grow slowly, not to achieve the role of the real sitz bath. The number of sitz baths can be reduced in the later stages of wound healing, and in the first 1-2 weeks when there is more pus in the anal fistula wound, sitz baths are very beneficial.
