Eyelid swelling belongs to the category of “edema” in Chinese medicine. The causes of eyelid swelling include wind and water (sudden edema of the head, face and limbs), spleen qi deficiency and kidney yang deficiency (deficiency of yang qi in the kidneys), etc. You can take Chinese herbal prescriptions such as Yue Maidu Jiajutsu Soup, Ginseng Ling Baijutsu San, and Jin Gui Kidney qi Pill, respectively. 1. Wind and water fight: mainly due to the sudden swelling of head and face caused by the external attack of wind, the lung’s lack of declaring and purging, and the water-dampness overflowing to the skin, accompanied by coldness (fear of cold), fever, no sweating, thin white moss, and a floating and tight pulse, etc., which needs to be treated with Yue Maiden Garjiao Soup. 2. Deficiency of spleen qi: the spleen is the main transporter (the spleen has the function of digesting food, absorbing food essence and water and transferring it to the whole body), if the spleen qi is unable to transporter the water and liquid, resulting in the internal storage of water and dampness (the water and dampness stays in the body), then there will be puffiness and swelling of the face, depression, tiredness, fatigue, shortness of breath, laziness, pale and fat tongue with teeth marks, and weak pulse, etc., and it can be treated with Ginseng Ling Bai Zhu Tang. 3. Kidney yang deficiency: Kidney yang deficiency is not able to vaporize water and liquids, and edema will occur, manifesting as swelling of the whole body or face, cold pain in the waist and knees, fear of cold, pale tongue and tight pulse, etc., which can be treated with Jin Gui Kidney qi pills. When using traditional Chinese medicine, it must be applied under the guidance of the doctor of traditional Chinese medicine, avoiding self-medication and affecting the therapeutic effect.
