Appropriate rehabilitation training after internal fixation of patella fracture can improve knee mobility and promote recovery. Joint mobility and muscle strength training are the main focus.
1. 1~2 weeks after operation: the affected limb should be elevated in the early postoperative period to promote venous return and eliminate swelling, isometric contraction of quadriceps and hamstring muscles as well as ankle pumping exercise can be carried out, and continuous passive movement of the knee can be started gradually on the second postoperative day, and standing and walking training without weight bearing can be started gradually in the first postoperative week.
2. 3~6 weeks after surgery: straight leg raising exercises can be done in supine position without aggravating the joint pain, and knee holding exercises can be done after the knee flexion is greater than 90 degrees, and partially weight-bearing to fully weight-bearing standing and walking exercises can be done gradually for the affected side of the lower limbs, but falls and incorrect over-activity must be avoided.
3. 4 weeks~3 months after the operation: increase squatting exercises, gradually increase the squatting angle, the maximum is not more than 90 degrees, squatting exercises with one leg of the affected side under protection, also need to carry out up and down the stairs and other exercises such as power bicycles, and return to normal life.
Rehabilitation after internal fixation of patella fracture should be carried out under the guidance of a professional rehabilitator, once there is pain or other discomfort immediately stop practicing and seek treatment from a doctor, so as not to cause secondary injury and delay the condition.
