How long to take bromocriptine to lower prolactin

Bromocriptine is taken orally as prescribed for about 1 month and patients will experience a significant reduction in their prolactin levels. Bromocriptine is a dopamine agonist that can be used to lower serum prolactin levels and is the first line of treatment for hyperprolactinemia, and the patient’s prolactin levels will decrease significantly after about one month of use. However, it is not recommended to discontinue the drug immediately after the prolactin level is reduced to normal, but to maintain the treatment at a smaller dose for more than six months. It should be noted that bromocriptine is not suitable for all types of elevated prolactin levels, and that adverse reactions such as dizziness, nausea and loss of appetite may occur if taken for too long, so it is necessary to consult a medical professional and follow medical advice before using the medication.
