What does an abnormal EEG in children mean?

There are three types of abnormal EEGs in children: 1) mild EEG abnormalities, 2) moderate EEG abnormalities, and 3) severe EEG abnormalities. Mild EEG abnormalities have a good prognosis. In the case of moderate and severe abnormal EEG, it may indicate that there is hypoxia, ischemia, and epilepsy or encephalitis in the brain with abnormal discharges. The bioelectrical activity is relatively small under normal conditions, and in abnormalities, the brain waves will react significantly different from normal, like in epilepsy where abnormal waves can occur. When the abnormal brain waves are moderate and severe abnormal, it suggests a pathological condition in the body, which may be ischemia, hypoxia, epilepsy, or the presence of encephalitis, and should be taken seriously enough.
