What is the purpose of a ventricular septal defect (vsd) occluder?

The function of septal occluder is to isolate the abnormal blood flow between the two ventricles and correct the hemodynamic abnormality. Ventricular septal defect is a congenital heart disease, due to the developmental defect of the heart’s ventricular septum, there is a defect in the area of the ventricular septum, clinically it can be manifested as an abnormal blood flow from the left ventricle to the right ventricle, long-term abnormal blood flow will lead to an increase in the load of the right heart, and ultimately, heart failure will occur. Patients with ventricular septal defects can be treated with septal occlusion. The main treatment method is to place an occluder on the septum to completely isolate the two ventricles from each other, so that the abnormal blood flow completely disappears, relieving the hemodynamic abnormality and slowing down the process of heart failure. Patients with ventricular septal defects should be routinely evaluated with ultrasound and, if necessary, treated with septal surgery in a timely manner to avoid the development of severe heart failure, which requires specialized cardiovascular surgery.
