Can MR rule out nasopharyngeal cancer?

MR refers to MRI, no abnormality in MRI can not exclude nasopharyngeal cancer, it needs to be combined with EBV serology test, nasopharyngoscopy and other comprehensive judgment, generally it can exclude nasopharyngeal cancer, but it can not be denied the possibility of false-negative results. MRI of nasopharynx and neck is one of the most commonly used methods to examine nasopharyngeal cancer, because MRI has high resolution of soft tissue, it can observe whether the mucous membrane of nasopharynx is thickened or not, whether both sides of nasopharynx are symmetrical or not, whether the lymph nodes in the region are enlarged or not, and it can determine the location and scope of the tumor, as well as its invasion of the neighboring structures, especially it is good for the brain tissues, parapharyngeal tissues and muscle tissues. However, MRI is not ideal for the differential diagnosis of early masses, and it is difficult to distinguish between benign hyperplasia and early small malignant tumors in terms of cross-over, so MRI is not suitable for routine diagnosis, and it is mostly used for assisting in judging the TNM staging of malignant tumors in clinical practice. At present, to diagnose nasopharyngeal cancer, EBV serological test is used as a screening method, and then further examination is carried out for the high-risk group of nasopharyngeal cancer with abnormal titer, which often includes nasopharyngoscopy, MRI and cervical ultrasound, etc., among which nasopharyngoscopy is the most effective means to reflect the situation of nasopharyngeal mucosa and to detect early nasopharyngeal cancer. If patients suspect that they have nasopharyngeal cancer, it is recommended to go to regular hospitals to complete relevant examinations and let doctors make diagnosis or exclusion, and patients should not diagnose on their own in order to avoid delaying their condition.
