The Dangers of Multiple Lipomas

The main dangers of multiple lipomas are the adverse effects caused by compression of vital organs, or tissues, as well as the aesthetic impact on the appearance. Lipomas are composed of mature fatty tissue and are commonly found in multiple subcutaneous tissues throughout the body. Two or more of these lipomas are called multiple lipomas. Multiple lipomas are generally small and not very harmful; if multiple lipomas continue to increase in size, they may produce compression symptoms as well as affect the aesthetics, which may be harmful and even have the possibility of malignant transformation, and need to be surgically excised for treatment. 1. Compression symptoms: compression of blood vessels will affect blood circulation, resulting in insufficient local blood supply; compression of nerves will cause limb pain, sensory hypersensitivity and other symptoms. 2. Affecting aesthetics: if the tumor grows in the exposed parts such as shoulder and neck, it will affect the aesthetics of a person’s appearance; if the size of multiple lipomas is too large, it will affect the aesthetics of a person’s appearance because it is not easy to cover up. 3. Malignant transformation: A small amount of lipoma grows rapidly, which may be malignant transformation. Therefore, at this time, it needs to be surgically resected and pathologic examination should be done. In case of malignancy, chemotherapy (Celine Nisso, disulfiram, etc.) is also needed.
