Hysteroscopy can differentiate polyps from cancer in terms of general morphology. Polyps are relatively regular in shape, round or oval, while cancer is irregular in shape and tends to grow in a cauliflower pattern. Polyps are relatively small, while some cancers are very large. Polyps do not show necrosis, while cancer is likely to show surface breakdown and necrosis. However, sometimes it is difficult to distinguish between cancer and polyps in terms of general morphology. If polyps or cancer are seen under hysteroscopy, biopsy and pathological examination are usually required to confirm whether it is a polyp or cancer.
