What’s a nasal feeding tube for?

Nasogastric tubes are primarily used as an adjunctive line for enteral nutrition. Nasogastric tubes are mainly used for patients who cannot eat by mouth, premature babies, or patients who refuse to eat. The nasal feeding tube will enter the body through the nasal cavity, pass through the esophagus and then go to the stomach or small intestine, and then nutrient solution or medication will be fed into the gastrointestinal tract in order to ensure that the patients can obtain sufficient nutrients and also provide medication. Care needs to be taken when using a nasal feeding tube to keep the line open, especially after the infusion of nutritional solution, the tube should be flushed with water. Mainly to prevent dislodgement of the tube, the patient to pull out the tube, etc., the nasal feeding tube needs to be replaced regularly, ordinary gastric tube needs to be replaced once a week, silicone tube needs to be replaced once a month. Nasogastric tube is not suitable for patients with esophagogastric fundal varices. The use of nasal feeding tube needs to be under the guidance of professional doctors.
