The clinical manifestations of the decompensated stage of cirrhosis mainly include gastrointestinal symptoms, ascites, leg swelling, and in a few cases, vomiting blood and black stools. The decompensated stage of cirrhosis indicates a decline in the compensatory function of the liver, and a series of symptoms will appear. The most common of them are gastrointestinal symptoms, which may include abdominal distension, decreased appetite, nausea, and abdominal pain. Secondly, patients in the decompensated stage of cirrhosis may present with ascites and bilateral lower extremity edema due to low protein and high portal venous pressure. A few patients with decompensated cirrhosis in advanced stage may have induced gastrointestinal bleeding after rupture of esophagogastric fundal varices, vomiting blood, black stools, which are often more critical. Patients with decompensated cirrhosis are advised to seek timely medical treatment and actively cooperate with the doctor’s guidance for treatment to reduce the occurrence of complications and improve the prognosis.
