The whole procedure of percutaneous nephrolithotomy usually roughly includes positioning, anesthesia, puncture, placing guide wire, putting in nephrolithotomy, treating accordingly, and leaving nephrostomy.
1. Help the patient to take the left lateral position, right lateral position or prone position.
2. Perform general anesthesia according to the patient’s physical condition, and observe and adjust the whole process.
3. Puncture into the kidney with a puncture needle under ultrasound guidance; if there is clear urine flow, it proves that the puncture is successful.
4. Pull out the core of the puncture needle, place the guide wire inside the needle tube, and then dilate the puncture channel sequentially.
5. Place the puncture sheath and then insert the percutaneous nephroscope through the puncture sheath.
6. Surgical procedures are performed with the help of the percutaneous nephroscope, e.g., locating the stone and using the laser to break up the stone or remove the foreign body.
7. After the procedure, a nephrostomy tube is placed outside the body.
Percutaneous nephrolithotomy is performed by a specialized physician.
