It usually takes 4~6 weeks to start bending the knee after tibial plateau surgery, and it usually takes about three months for the knee to reach full flexion.
1. Initial bending exercise: tibial plateau fracture belongs to intra-articular fracture, patients with heavy joint surface damage usually need to undergo surgery to restore the flatness of the joint surface, after surgery patients usually need to be immobilized in a plaster cast or brace for 4-6 weeks, during the immobilization period usually the knee cannot be moved because it is necessary to ensure that the fracture ends are healed, and the immobilization device can be removed to perform extension and flexion exercises of the knee after 4-6 weeks. After 4 to 6 weeks, the immobilization device can be removed for knee extension and flexion exercises.
2. Complete bending: 4~6 weeks after tibial plateau fracture, patients can remove the external fixation device for knee extension and flexion rehabilitation training, but at this time, due to the prolonged braking and the fracture has not yet completely healed, the knee can not reach the state of complete bending, normally, with the rehabilitation training and the strengthening of the soft tissue strength, the majority of patients can reach the state of complete bending of the knee in three months. In general, with rehabilitation training and strengthening of soft tissue strength, most patients can achieve full knee flexion in three months.
If patients after tibial plateau surgery experience pain or swelling in the knee joint during knee bending exercises, it is recommended that they follow up with the doctor promptly.
