It is not recommended to take Half Summer Laxative Heart Soup and Xiao Chai Hu Tang together because they have more of the same medication, and taking them together may result in an overdose of the same medication and cause discomfort. Semixia Diarrheal Heart Tang is used for treating plumpness with mixed cold and heat (both cold and heat symptoms appearing in the same patient). The symptoms include plumpness under the heart (mainly distension and discomfort in the stomach), but fullness without pain, or vomiting, bowel sounds and discharges, with a greasy and slightly yellowish tongue coating. If the plumpness under the heart is caused by qi stagnation or food accumulation (indigestion of food and its accumulation in the stomach), it is not suitable for use. It should not be used. Xiao Chaihu Tang is used for treating typhoid fever and shaoyang (one of the six meridians in the theory of typhoid fever, which is located between the surface and the inside of the body) syndrome, which is characterized by cold and fever, bitter fullness in the chest and hypochondrium (feeling fullness and discomfort in the front and both sides of the chest), silent desire for food and drink, upset and nausea, and bitterness of the mouth; and heat into the blood chamber syndrome, which is characterized by typhoid fever of the woman (feeling the cold and fever caused by the cold evils), menstrual fluid interruption, and cold and fever attacks sometimes. It is forbidden to use if there is deficiency of yin and blood.
