Armpit odor is a kind of odoriferous sweat, also called fox odor, for the armpits to produce a special smell, especially obvious when it is hot and sweaty, sweat yellowish, the patient’s external ear canal is often accompanied by thin, soft earwax. The reason for this is on the one hand genetic, on the other hand, the patient’s sweat glands have gram-positive bacteria parasites, they decompose the excretion of sweat, producing short-chain fatty acids and ammonia, resulting in odor, although there is no physiological impact on the patient, but the odor makes the next person avoid, bringing unpleasant experiences to the patient’s psyche. 1, axillary odor is inherited This is an autosomal dominant disease. If one parent has armpit odor, 50% of the children have armpit odor; if both parents have, 66.7% of the children have armpit odor; if the parents have armpit odor but I did not get heredity, then their offspring will not get heredity. Generally women have higher incidence than men, and white and black people have higher incidence than yellow people, which is mainly related to the physiological structure and function of sweat glands. There are two types of sweat glands in the body: large and small sweat glands. The former are only found in the armpits, external ear canal and vulva, while the latter are found throughout the body. The secretions of the sweat glands contain a large amount of unsaturated fatty acids, which can be decomposed by the bacteria present on the skin surface to produce small organic substances with odor; the secretions of the small sweat glands are mainly various types of salt and water. Therefore, there are sweat glands and body surface bacteria can produce armpit odor, bad hygiene habits are particularly obvious. 3, the onset of time axillary odor is generally produced after puberty and lasts until about 40 to 50 years old, after which the sweat glands atrophy on their own, the smell is significantly reduced. If the secretion from the external ear canal is very oily before puberty, the chance of armpit odor is higher because the external ear canal is also the distribution area of sweat glands; similarly, most patients with armpit odor have “oily ears”. 4.Treatment The best cure is surgery (please refer to the consultation guide “Introduction to fox odor and surgery”). 5.Recurrence after surgery After removing most of the sweat glands, the efficiency is 90-95%, and the chance of recurrence is very small. However, a few patients with active sweat gland function can be seen clinically, only a small amount of sweat glands remain but the odor is still very obvious, in such cases, if the flap condition allows, you can operate again. It is important to note that some patients with good surgical results still feel the odor due to psychological factors, and such patients can be treated by psychological suggestion, taking care to distinguish it from true non-psychological post-operative axillary odor.
