Snapping hips are very difficult to treat on their own, mainly due to the cause of the snapping hip. Snapping hip is mostly caused by contractured tendons, ligaments and other soft tissues rubbing against the greater trochanter of the femur, resulting in a rattling sound. In some cases, it is due to acetabular impingement syndrome of the hip, where the lateral rim of the acetabulum is damaged and impinges on the greater trochanter. There are also a small number of causes due to free bodies within the joint, these conditions need to be treated to be able to correct, purely by the body’s self-healing is basically impossible, so popping hip is not likely to be self-healing.
