Tinnitus may be associated with cerumen impaction, secretory otitis media, acoustic neuroma, etc. General treatment, medication, and surgery should be chosen according to the cause and characteristics of the disease. There are no remedies to eliminate tinnitus symptoms.
1. Cerumen embolism: Excessive cerumen secretion in the external auditory canal and poor cerumen discharge can lead to the accumulation of cerumen in the ear canal to form an embolism, and tinnitus is easily produced when the cerumen presses on the tympanic membrane. Cerumen can be removed by direct instrumentation, rinsing after softening with sodium bicarbonate drops, or endoscopic negative pressure suction, etc. Tinnitus caused by this reason can be eliminated.
2. Secretory otitis media: under the effect of infection, allergy, dysfunction of Eustachian tube, etc., it leads to negative pressure and accumulation of fluid in the middle ear, and produces low-frequency tinnitus. It can be treated by oral medication such as antibiotics like amoxicillin, glucocorticosteroids like prednisone, etc., or conservative treatment such as eustachian tube blowing, or surgical treatment such as tympanic membrane puncture and incision when the conservative treatment is ineffective.
3. Auditory neuroma: Schwann’s cell tumor growing on the membrane of vestibulocochlear nerve sheath can lead to abnormal nerve discharge and produce tinnitus when it presses and stimulates the nerve. This symptom may disappear if the tumor is removed by surgical resection. If the tinnitus cannot be removed after removal of the tumor, masking therapy and sound therapy are needed to relieve the symptoms.
When suffering from tinnitus, it is necessary to actively seek medical treatment, systematic examination to clarify the diagnosis, and follow the doctor’s instructions to standardize the treatment.
