Orthopedic sports medicine related research

“Orthopedic sports medicine is an emerging clinical discipline, especially in China. With the success of Beijing’s bid to host the 2008 Olympic Games and the success of the Chinese Army in the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, China is gradually moving towards the goal of becoming a “sports powerhouse”. The implementation and development of China’s “Olympic Games Program” and “National Fitness Program” will inevitably require China’s sports medicine career to develop by leaps and bounds. Most people, even doctors, are very unfamiliar with the concept of “sports medicine”, and have never heard of “orthopedic sports medicine”. Sports medicine mainly studies the medical problems associated with competitive sports and national fitness, including sports physiology, sports biochemistry, sports nutrition, athlete selection, doping, sports trauma and rehabilitation. Practitioners include researchers engaged in sports science, sports team doctors, and some clinicians. Sports trauma, not only occurs in professional athletes, but is also very common in the general population. It includes acute injuries as well as chronic strain injuries to a variety of joints, the most common of which are meniscus injuries of the knee, articular cartilage injuries, cruciate ligament injuries, patellofemoral joint injuries, joint instability and repetitive sprains, rotator cuff injuries, shoulder dislocations, acromioclavicular impingement, synovitis, muscle injuries, tendinopathies, osteoarthritis, and tennis elbow. All injured athletes want to treat their injuries with as little trauma as possible, regain their athleticism and competitiveness, and return to play. This poses a new test for the traditional approach to trauma treatment in orthopedics. Therefore, how to use minimally invasive means to maximize the recovery of the injured (including athletes and the general public) to restore the ability to exercise, restore the level of competition or quality of life has become a common concern of orthopaedic surgeons and sports medicine doctors! Therefore, in foreign countries, some of the orthopedic doctors who have received professional training, absorbing the treatment concept of sports medicine, the use of advanced treatment methods, specializing in muscle, tendon, ligament, joints, acute and chronic sports injury diagnosis and treatment, so as to develop “orthopedic sports medicine” as a new discipline. Based on the treatment concept of “small injury, good efficacy, fast recovery and good function”, “Orthopaedic Sports Medicine” has injected new vitality into traditional medicine and proposed many new topics, so this field has developed rapidly in recent years. At present, “minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery” is one of the main weapons of “orthopedic sports medicine”, and its advantages of minimally invasive surgery are obvious. As a result, arthroscopic surgery has gradually gained momentum and related surgical instruments have been developed for the benefit of patients.
