Not all children vaccinated against leprosy may have an adverse reaction. Most do not have a reaction, and a small number may experience discomfort at the vaccination site as well as fever. The majority of children who receive leprosy vaccine will not have any significant adverse effects. A small number of children may have symptoms such as redness, swelling, pain and nodules at the vaccination site, which are usually not too serious and can be relieved by applying hot compresses to the child. Some children who are not in good health may have fever, which can be dealt with by physical cooling therapy, giving the child more warm water, paying attention to keeping the child warm, and then letting the child soak in a hot bath and use lukewarm water to wipe his/her body. In addition, there are certain contraindications to leprosy vaccination, and it is recommended that parents consult with a specialist before vaccinating their children.
