Parents are not advised to help their 2 year old babies to remove earwax when their ears are clogged with earwax, instead, they should be evaluated by an ENT doctor before handling the problem.
The skin of the cartilaginous part of the external auditory canal has ceruminous glands, and the secretion from these glands is called “earwax”, which is medically known as cerumen. In most cases, cerumen is removed by the jaw joint, but otitis externa, eczema, and frequent digging can cause excessive cerumen secretion, which can lead to embolism of the ear canal, or so-called “earwax blockage”.
In addition, narrowing of the external auditory canal and the retention of foreign bodies can block the normal pathway for cerumen removal, which may also lead to ear canal embolism.
If you have an ear canal embolism, you should go to an ENT to have the cerumen removed, or if it is caused by a disease, you need to treat the cause of the disease.
