In novel coronavirus infections, the body temperature can be low or high. This depends mainly on the amount of virus inhaled and the immune function status of the patient. Usually, coronavirus infection can cause activation of our body’s immune system, which can release some inflammatory factors or stimulate our temperature center, thus causing an increase in body temperature. For most immunocompetent people, a moderate fever of 38-39°C may occur. However, it is worth noting that some elderly or frail patients may, in turn, develop some low fever. Such patients often suggest a poor prognosis or a high risk of turning critical, so it is worthwhile to pay special attention to this group of people.
