With aggressive treatment with surgery and/or medication, when GH hypersecretion is effectively controlled and serum growth hormone and IGF-1 are reduced to normal levels, there is some gradual regression of the characteristic soft tissue overgrowth and associated symptoms, a reduction in skin thickness and a return to a more normal appearance than before, but the resulting skeletal, jaw and joint changes are irreversible.
