Radix Panax Quinquefolii is diuretic and diaphoretic, clearing the heart and lowering fire. Maitake is used for quenching thirst, moistening the lungs and relieving cough, and Fig is used for clearing heat and promoting the production of body fluid, strengthening the spleen and opening up the stomach.
Lampsbane has diuretic and diaphoretic effects, clearing the heart and lowering fire. It is used in the treatment of gonorrhea (increased frequency of urination, dribbling and astringent pain), insomnia, heartburn, and sores on the mouth and tongue. It should be contraindicated in cases of lower anxiety deficiency and coldness (mainly referring to weakness and coldness in the lower abdomen such as bladder and kidney) and urinary incontinence.
Ophiopogon has the efficacy of promoting the production of fluids to quench thirst, moistening the lungs and relieving cough. It is suitable for the treatment of dry lung and dry cough, paralysis of larynx (redness, swelling and pain in pharynx, or dryness, feeling of foreign body, or itchy discomfort in pharynx, difficulty in swallowing), sore throat, fluid injury, thirst, heartburn and insomnia. It should be contraindicated in those who have loose stools (thin and unformed feces) due to spleen deficiency, and those who have phlegm in the lungs and stomach (pathological products formed by impaired metabolism of water and fluid) with dampness and turbidity.
Fig has the effect of clearing heat and generating fluids, strengthening the spleen and stomach, detoxifying and eliminating swelling, and is suitable for the treatment of loss of appetite, dyspepsia, diarrhea, sore throat, scanty milk, intestinal heat and constipation, dysentery, carbuncle, and ringworm. It should be used with caution in people with cold spleen and stomach.
