Yellowish-green fluid from the gastric tube may be normal if it occurs after intubation causing nausea and vomiting, and is abnormal if the patient has pyloric insufficiency of closure or high obstruction of the small intestine.
The normal color of gastric fluid is a clear, clear, or yellowish liquid. If there is nausea and vomiting when the patient is intubated, and some of the bile flows back into the stomach through the pylorus, the phenomenon of yellowish-green liquid coming out of the gastric tube may occur, and this situation is considered normal. This is normal and will usually improve on its own.
If the patient’s gastric tube drainage fluid presents yellow-green color, and combined with abdominal pain, abdominal distension, fever, nausea and vomiting and other discomforts, consider that it may be caused by pyloric closure insufficiency, high obstruction of the small intestine, which is not normal and needs surgical treatment.
If the patient’s gastric tube drains yellow-green fluid, it is recommended to further consult the doctor, follow the doctor’s therapeutic advice, and rule out abnormalities.
