How to treat proteinuria

The causes of proteinuria are divided into physiologic and pathologic factors. Physiological factors include strenuous exercise, etc. Proteinuria can disappear after rest and no treatment is needed. Pathological factors include nephrotic syndrome, diabetic nephropathy, etc. According to the different causes, general treatment and drug treatment are chosen. 1. Physiological factors: strenuous exercise, mental tension, sympathetic nervous excitement and other physiological state, can cause temporary, mild proteinuria, this proteinuria can disappear with the elimination of factors affecting the physiological response of the body and the recovery of renal function, no need for treatment. 2. Pathological factors: including nephrotic syndrome, diabetic nephropathy and so on. Nephrotic syndrome is characterized by massive proteinuria, hypoproteinemia, edema and hyperlipidemia, and the treatment includes symptomatic treatment such as diuresis, lowering blood pressure and urinary proteins, and lipid-lowering therapy, etc. Those with clear pathological types can be treated with hormones and/or immunosuppressant drugs. Diabetic nephropathy also presents with proteinuria, which can be treated with ACEI/ARB drugs such as valsartan, chlorosartan, captopril, and benazepril in combination with glucose-lowering drugs such as metformin, acarbose, and dagliflozin. Proteinuria causes also include nephritis, urinary tract infections, etc., patients should go to the hospital in time to improve the examination, clear the cause of the disease to give targeted treatment in accordance with the doctor’s instructions, do not self-medication.
