What are Domperidone tablets?

Domperidone tablets belong to the gastrointestinal motility class of gastrointestinal function modulators and are commonly used for nausea, vomiting and gastrointestinal motility disorders caused by a variety of reasons. Pharmacological effects: There is a substance called dopamine in the human body, which has a great influence on our emotions and behaviors, it determines whether we are happy or not, and commands most of our behaviors in life. Domperidone can play an antiemetic role by blocking the transmission of dopamine to the gastrointestinal command, and at the same time strengthen the gastrointestinal motility. Enhanced gastrointestinal peristalsis coordinates gastrointestinal motility, promotes gastric emptying, plays a role in preventing food reflux and exerts a gastrointestinal prokinetic effect. It is commonly used clinically for the treatment of dyspepsia, bloating, belching, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal distension. Side effects: In recent years, however, there has been a growing concern about the safety of domperidone, and in 2014, the European Medicines Agency issued a report concluding that domperidone is associated with a risk of serious heart disease and recommended that the indication be limited to the relief of nausea and vomiting and no longer used for indications such as flatulence and heartburn, and that the dose be reduced to 10 mg for adolescents and adults weighing more than 35 kg. Up to 3 times daily and should not be used for more than 1 week. Dosage: In 2016, the General Administration of Food and Drug Administration of China revised the instructions for domperidone. The dosage was adjusted to 10mg three times a day for adolescents and adults weighing more than 35kg, not to exceed 40mg daily, and up to 0.25mg/kg body weight for children under 35kg to be taken orally three times a day. The duration of use should not exceed one week, and if symptoms are not relieved after 3 days of use, a doctor or pharmacist should be consulted. Also, changes have been made to the contraindications and precautions for the use of the drug. For example, patients with heart disease, tumor patients receiving chemotherapy, patients with electrolyte disorders may aggravate the risk of heart rhythm disorders. The clinical indications, however, were not modified in any way. In conclusion, domperidone tablets are non-prescription Class A drugs, which are safer in regular application doses and can be purchased by patients in pharmacies after self-judgment of their condition. It is recommended that patients should read the instructions in detail before using the drug, and should use the drug in strict accordance with the indications, clear contraindications and precautions, etc.
