Why do wisdom teeth become inflamed easily?

The evolutionary process of human beings has resulted in the shortening of the jawbone, leaving insufficient space for the wisdom teeth (third molars) to erupt and for the gum tissue to attach to the crown of the tooth to form a blind pocket. These pockets tend to accumulate food debris and are difficult to clean with daily brushing, thus harbouring many bacteria. When oral hygiene is poor, especially when the body’s resistance is reduced, this can lead to inflammation of the wisdom teeth.
