Lithotripsy is a method of treating urinary stones and is currently divided into extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy and holmium laser lithotripsy. Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy is mainly for kidney stones with a diameter of 1.5cm or less, and is a method of lithotripsy by focusing shock waves on the stones, which does not require open surgery. Lithotripsy can only be performed once a week. However, the effect of lithotripsy is not guaranteed. Holmium laser lithotripsy is a procedure that involves placing a Holmium laser fiber into the site of the stone under direct vision to crush the stone with the aid of a ureteroscope, flexible mirror or nephroscope. This is a minimally invasive procedure with minimal trauma and a more definite treatment effect, and it is also the most commonly used lithotripsy treatment method.
