Breast lumpectomy-assisted modified radical treatment of breast cancer with nipple preservation

A good surgical outcome for breast cancer requires not only complete removal of the tumor, but more importantly, ensuring the quality of life of the patient, therefore, surgeons are urgently required to continuously improve the surgical approach. Breast-conserving surgery requires additional radiotherapy, and there are some concerns about whether breast-conserving surgery increases the recurrence rate of breast cancer, and some patients give up breast-conserving surgery for economic reasons. After radical excision of conventional breast cancer, huge scars are left on the chest, which affect the aesthetics and have more serious complications such as upper limb edema. The application of breast lumpectomy technology provides a new technical platform for surgeons to pursue the long-term goal of less trauma, better treatment effect, and taking into account the cosmetic and psychological effects of the patient while curing the disease; it is an innovative development of surgical technology and highlights the connotation of the modern medical model of “bio-social-psychological”. Because of its ability to complete complex surgical operations in a wide range of areas through tiny incisions, its low bleeding, fast recovery, outstanding cosmetic effects and functional preservation, the patient’s postoperative mental and psychological recovery has outstanding effects that are difficult to achieve with conventional surgery, achieving the dual purpose of minimally invasive physiology and minimally invasive psychology, which is the beautiful wish of breast cancer clinical practice. Based on the study of applied anatomy of functional breast cancer radical surgery with nipple preservation, our hospital was the first to carry out breast lumpectomy-assisted nipple preservation modified radical surgery for 46 cases of breast cancer in Weifang City. The preserved breasts were in good shape, the wounds were small and concealed, and all patients were satisfied with the surgical results. No local recurrence was seen in the postoperative follow-up. The project “Clinical Application Research of Breast Cavernoscopy-assisted Nipple Preservation Radical Treatment of Breast Cancer” has reached the advanced level in China through provincial experts’ appraisal, which marks our hospital’s leading level in treating breast cancer in Weifang City.
