The pathologic type of hypopharyngeal cancer is squamous cell carcinoma in most cases, which is moderately sensitive to radiotherapy. However, the efficacy of radiotherapy alone is not very good. Only patients with early stage of hypopharyngeal cancer can achieve better curative effect through surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, so as to cure hypopharyngeal cancer patients.
Hypopharyngeal cancer is a kind of malignant tumor of head and neck with high malignant degree. The sensitivity of this malignant tumor to radiation therapy and chemotherapy is not very high. Therefore, if hypopharyngeal cancer is already in advanced stage at the time of diagnosis, only chemotherapy and radiotherapy-based comprehensive treatment can be given, and the cure rate of patients is low and the survival time is obviously shortened.
Radiation therapy for advanced hypopharyngeal cancer patients is only to alleviate the symptoms, and the possibility of curing advanced hypopharyngeal cancer is relatively low.
