Headache is a very common clinical symptom, and it is common to see patients who have a headache on one side and subjectively believe that this is a migraine. In fact, this is not true. A headache on one side is not a migraine. There are certain criteria for the diagnosis of migraine, and the prognosis and treatment of different types of headache are completely different. So today, under this heading, we will talk about the classification of migraine and the treatment of acupuncture, focusing on migraine. Headache is a very common clinical symptom. At the same time, the classification of headache is quite complicated. Specifically, the International Headache Society has established a classification and diagnosis standard, in which I remember there are more than 30 types of headache, and it is not necessary to remember this as an ordinary patient. In terms of the general classification, headache is divided into primary headache and secondary headache. Primary headache is the most common type of headache in clinical practice, which has no clear cause, while secondary headache has a clear cause. For example, meningitis, cerebral parasitic infection, occupational lesions, traumatic brain injury, etc. can cause headache, and this is called secondary headache. Migraine is the most common type of primary headache, and it accounts for a higher percentage of headaches. What are the characteristics of migraine? First of all, migraine attacks mainly occur in young adults, generally between 15 and 55 years old, and more women than men. In addition, some patients have a family history of migraine, for example, if the mother has migraine, her daughter will have a higher chance of getting migraine. Migraine is an episodic headache, and each attack usually lasts less than 72 hours. Some patients have an aura before a migraine attack, such as a light spot in front of the eyes. Some patients may have nausea and vomiting, and some may have diarrhea. The pain is usually severe, and the patient prefers to be quiet during the headache and is afraid of sound and light. Most patients prefer to sleep during the attack, and some patients need to take painkillers to control the headache. This is one of the main characteristics of migraine attacks, and it is not called migraine if the headache is on one side. Migraine is recurrent and difficult to treat, so some patients, especially those with long duration of the disease, gradually lose confidence in the treatment. First of all, although there are no specific drugs for migraine, painkillers, calcium antagonists and tritans have certain therapeutic and preventive effects on migraine. Acupuncture is an important therapy in Chinese traditional medicine, which has the effect of relieving pain, unblocking the meridians and removing external evil. In our previous clinical observation, we found that acupuncture is very effective in relieving pain in the acute phase and preventing attacks in the remission phase of migraine. First of all, acupuncture can open the meridians and channels during the acute phase of the attack, which can achieve the purpose of pain relief, tranquilization, blood circulation, and the effect of pain relief comes quickly. The main advantage of acupuncture is the preventive treatment of migraine attacks, that is to say, how to make the next headache attack later or not, and even if there is an attack, the nature of the pain is reduced, this is the main purpose of acupuncture to relieve the headache. Then, through a course of treatment, usually twice to three times a week for a month, the next headache can be reduced in severity. The duration of the inter-episode period is also prolonged, for example, the pain used to be once a month, but now it is only once in two or three months that we have a mild headache, which is completely achievable with acupuncture treatment. We have conducted clinical studies on more than 100 patients and found that the efficacy of acupuncture in the preventive treatment of migraine remission is no less than that of conventional western medicine, such as tramadol, and that acupuncture is easy to use, has no side effects, and is a very good choice for the treatment of migraine.
