After nearly 30 years of research, scholars of TCM physical constitution have classified physical constitution according to the morphological structure, physiological functions, psychological characteristics and reaction states of the human body, and formulated the TCM physical constitution scale and the criteria of “Classification and Determination of TCM Physical Qualities”. The TCM physical constitution includes 9 basic types, such as pinghe, qi-vacant, yang-vacant, yin-vacant, phlegm-damp, damp-heat, blood stasis, qi-yu, and special endowment. Different body types have their own characteristics in terms of physical characteristics, physiological characteristics, psychological characteristics, pathological reaction state, pathogenic tendencies, etc. (A) Peaceful quality (type A) General characteristics: Yin and Yang Qi and blood harmony, with a moderate posture, rosy complexion, full of energy as the main characteristics. Physical characteristics: proportionate and healthy body shape. Mental characteristics: easy-going and cheerful personality. Common manifestations: moist face and complexion, dense and lustrous hair, lustrous gaze, bright nose, good sense of smell, red lips, not easily fatigued, energetic, tolerant of heat and cold, good sleep, good appetite, normal bowel movements, light red tongue, thin white fur, slow and strong pulse. (B) Qi deficiency (type B) is mostly distributed in the western and eastern regions. It may be related to the high altitude and low air pressure in the west, as well as the long winter in the northeast and the relatively low temperature in spring and autumn. General characteristics: lack of vital energy, with fatigue, shortness of breath, spontaneous sweating and other manifestations of qi deficiency as the main characteristics. Physical characteristics: flabby and insubstantial muscles. Common manifestations: heat in the hands and feet, dry mouth and throat, slightly dry nose, preference for cold drinks, dry stools, red tongue with little fluid, thin pulse. Mental characteristics: impatient, outgoing and active. Pathogenic tendency: susceptible to deficiency labor, loss of essence, sleeplessness, etc.; susceptible to heat from sensation of evil. Adaptability to the external environment: resistant to winter but not to summer; intolerance to heat, heat, dryness. (E) phlegm-damp quality (Type E) Most often seen in unit leaders, middle-aged and elderly people who live comfortably, more men. General characteristics: damp-heat is contained within, with the main characteristics of damp-heat manifestations such as oily face, bitter mouth, yellow and greasy moss.
