What are the drugs used to treat enuresis

The following medications are generally used for the treatment of enuresis: promethazine is indicated for patients with the arousal disorder type of enuresis; oxybutynin is indicated for the diurnal polyuria type; and ephedrine can be used for the mixed type. Desmopressin, a synthetic antidiuretic hormone, is indicated for the nocturnal polyuric type; the combined application of amitriptyline, desmopressin and oxybutynin is currently considered an effective triple drug for the treatment of persistent, mixed enuresis, with the disadvantage that it has varying degrees of side effects and is prone to relapse after discontinuation of the drug. These drugs are prescription medications, promethazine and amitriptyline are antidepressants, and the doses are adult doses, which should be calculated for children based on kilogram weight. Improvements can also be obtained by timed training, urine holding training, urine interruption training, education and explanation to the child to eliminate mental tension and avoid causing emotional disturbance. Avoiding water after dinner and making sure to empty the bladder before going to bed can reduce the number of bedwetting.
