The severity of focal segmental glomerulonephritis mainly depends on the degree of its pathologic lesions and the patient’s responsiveness to medications, and generally the treatment effect of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis is poorer compared with other pathologic types. For focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, most of them are not effective on glucocorticoids alone, and some of them can be effective when combined with immunosuppressants, but the onset of effect is longer. If remission of renal disease can be achieved, the prognosis is relatively good. However, if remission persists, more than half of the patients will enter the stage of end-stage renal disease, or uremia, within 6-10 years. Patients with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis account for about 10% of renal diseases in China, and it is prevalent in adolescent males.
