Induced abortion is usually treated with oral mifepristone in combination with misoprostol. Mifepristone is usually taken for 3 days and misoprostol on the 4th day. The gestational sac and pregnancy tissues are usually expelled only after misoprostol is taken, and symptoms such as abdominal pain and vaginal bleeding do not usually occur while taking mifepristone. Most patients are able to expel the pregnancy tissue within 2 hours after taking misoprostol, but some patients are not sensitive to the drug and cannot expel the pregnancy sac even within 6 hours after taking misoprostol, so they need to take misoprostol again. If there is heavy vaginal bleeding or if the patient still does not expel the gestational sac even after taking additional misoprostol, a curettage may be considered. Alternatively, some patients are sensitive to the drug and may expel the pregnancy tissue while taking mifepristone.
