First of all, medicine has unsurpassable boundaries, which is that no matter how advanced medicine is, there are diseases that cannot be overcome, so people will always die. before the 19th century, the main diseases that cause death are bacterial and viral infections, through the development of medicine and pharmacology in the 19th and 20th centuries, infections are no longer a big problem. Currently, the main human mortality diseases are degenerative diseases, caused by aging of organs, such as cancer and cardiovascular diseases. These diseases used to occur less frequently because the vast majority of people do not live to be old enough to suffer from them. We usually say that the mission of medicine is to save lives, but I think that medicine can help and cure, but not save lives. I personally think that doctors and patients need to form a consensus to determine the boundaries and purpose of medicine based on this fundamental limitation of medicine. The diseases that can be cured should be cured, and the diseases that cannot be cured should be improved in quality of life. However, there is no good solution for how to do it and how to determine the boundary and purpose of medicine.
