Ganmai Wu Bei San is composed of Wu Wu, Gan Song, Cao Kao, Neem, Yuan Hu, Raw Malt, Zhe Bei, and Sheng Cao. Ganmai Wu Bei San can warm the spleen and stomach, stop bleeding and remove blood stasis, regulate qi and regenerate muscle, soften hardness and harmonize. It is mainly used for Yang deficiency of the spleen and stomach with Qi stagnation and blood stasis (blood stasis due to lack of Qi circulation). In this formula, squid removes dampness; Gan Song awakens the spleen and strengthens the stomach; Cao Nutmeg warms the middle Jiao and disperses cold (dispersing cold by warming the spleen and stomach), and promotes qi and relieves pain (relieving pain by regulating the body’s qi); Neem promotes qi and relieves pain; Yuan Hu promotes blood circulation and disperses blood stasis, and regulates qi and relieves pain; Sheng Mai Hu eliminates food and removes stagnation (digesting stagnant food); Zhen Bei disperses lumps and reduces swellings; Hovenia Citrus shells regulate qi and remove stagnation; and Sheng Causarius clears heat; the herbs combined together can help to remove heat and relieve blood stagnation.
