TPSA is Total Prostate Specific Antigen, a high level suggests prostate cancer or prostate hyperplasia, etc. Consultation with a specialist is recommended.
TPSA is a kind of prostate-specific antigen, and the normal value of serum TPSA is <4.0ug/L. The result may vary according to different examination equipment and methods.
1. Prostate cancer: a significant increase in serum total prostate-specific antigen can indicate prostate cancer, after active treatment, such as surgical resection, total prostate-specific antigen can be significantly reduced, if the tumor recurs or metastasizes, the total prostate-specific antigen is often not significantly reduced or rises again.
2. Prostatic hyperplasia: mild elevation of serum total prostate-specific antigen can also be seen in benign prostatic diseases, such as prostatitis, benign prostatic hyperplasia, etc., and the high level of serum total prostate-specific antigen is usually not obvious, often not more than 10ug/L. If the serum total prostate-specific antigen is in the range of 4-10ug/L, it is necessary to combine with the ratio of free prostate-specific antigen/total prostate-specific antigen, and if it is less than 0.1, it suggests that prostate cancer.
3. Others: Certain surgical operations, such as prostate massage and anal diagnosis, may also result in high total prostate-specific antigen, and similar operations should be avoided as much as possible before the examination.
Total prostate specific antigen may also be caused by other factors, it is recommended to consult a specialist in a regular hospital for a clear diagnosis and treatment.
