The 24 hour urine protein report card focuses on the amount of protein it contains, if it exceeds 150mg it is proteinuria and if it exceeds 3.5g it is massive proteinuria.
The 24-hour urine protein test is a means used to quantify proteinuria. Normal human urine is almost protein-free, but if the kidney’s filtration barrier is damaged for various reasons, protein will appear in the urine. Proteinuria is diagnosed if the 24-hour urine protein quantification is greater than 150mg, and massive proteinuria is diagnosed if the urine protein exceeds 3.5g.
In addition to the 24-hour urine protein test, there is also a random urine albumin/creatinine ratio, which is considered microalbuminuria if the ratio is between 30 and 300mg, and macroalbuminuria if it is greater than 300mg. There are advantages and disadvantages to both methods, so they need to be considered together when choosing a test and determining the results.
If the urine is abnormal, please consult a regular hospital as soon as possible and follow the doctor’s instructions for standardized examination and treatment.
