Is gout related to dampness?

Gout belongs to the category of “paralysis” in traditional Chinese medicine, which has a certain relationship with dampness.
From the understanding of traditional Chinese medicine, gout is mostly caused by the body’s positive qi deficiency as the root cause, and the attack of external evils as the symptom, which is caused by the same disease, internal deficiency and external sensation. Liver and kidney deficiency is the basis of gout, spleen deficiency and dampness is the root cause of gout, and external dampness is the key to its pathogenesis.
If the spleen is deficient, the water and grain essence and micro-organisms will stop gathering in the body and develop into internal dampness. Dampness is a yin evil, which is heavy, sticky and tends to be downward, and often gathers in the low position of the body, making the joints numb and swollen, and it is easy to turn into heat, phlegm and stasis, which will be manifested in the joints with the manifestations of redness, swelling, heat and pain, etc. External evils are mainly dampness.
Dampness is the dominant external evil, which can be mixed with cold, heat, stasis, phlegm and other pathogenic evils. Therefore, dampness can be both external and internal, in which internal dampness is the root and external dampness is the symptom.
For the treatment of gout, it is advisable to strengthen the spleen and remove dampness during the period of remission, as well as tonifying the liver and kidney; during the period of attack, it is advisable to remove dampness and relieve pain, as well as removing cold, heat, phlegm and stasis.
If you suffer from gout, it is recommended that you consult a doctor in a timely manner and formulate a treatment plan under the guidance of the doctor’s diagnosis to avoid delaying your condition.
